cry alone
I’ll not cry where you can see me,
You have tears enough that you dare not shed.
I will smile through this for you if it cuts me to ribbons.
I will try to lift your spirits as you lie broken and bleeding in the dust
And pretend I’m not lying there with you.
I will mean it when I say “see you tomorrow”,
And you will never ever ever hear a whisper from me that says I don’t believe that.
And I know,
And you know that I know.
And I know that.
But crying will not change a thing...
If only for a moment my tears could cause the stars to fall,
And the rocks to rise,
And the clock to wind back upon itself
Then I would curse and wail and weep and the deluge of my tears would shame the very oceans with their magnitude.
But no.
I’ll not cry where you can see me.
I’ll wait, and cry alone.
