untitled 8
We never fell in love, you and I.
We sank.
And as the swell raged over our heads
We drifted down those inky depths,
Desperately holding hands as the last air left our lungs
With our eyes wide and fearful.
And like a school of fish nibbling the dead skin from my toes,
You began to consume me;
But you were too hungry
Or forgot who you were,
Because suddenly you closed all your teeth around me.
And when you breached and breathed your wild air in
I was left derelict on the bottom of the sea,
Fingers outstretched,
Grasping for a lifeline that you never threw.
